Essay - Let's talk about alcohol

1. What kind of alcohol do you prefer to drink? If you don't drink, which beverage do you drink in bar?

If I should choose one between beer and soju, I favor beer over soju.

Both of them never get old(질리지 않다). Soju is more popular in Korea, but the tasty of soju is much stronger than beer, and soju sometimes is much bitter depending on the situation. I don't like that change of taste.

Recently I've been enjoying drinking wine

Like beer, there are various types of wine depending on kind of grape. For example, Carbernet Sauvignon that is able to be said Korean think of wine is fruity and acidic, whereas Sangiovese has pasture smell and woody.

 

3. Is there social pressure to drink in your culture? How do you feel about this pressure?

When I was a student in university, our culture about drinking was on change. At early age, there were some rules in a drinking party. On the party with seniors, we should drink with some polite motions like turning my head not to be seen that I'm drinking. Another example was implicit compulsion to drink alcohol. If I drink my glass, my senior see that then, fill my glass with soju. If I have my glass with full of soju, my senior encourages me to drink, implicitly and by a word. "Oh, your glass is filled with soju, Why don't you drink that?". That situation was too ironic.
